Duff Supports Italian Presidency Proposal

12.00.00am GMT Wed 26th Nov 2003

Andrew Duff supports the package produced by the Italian presidency in advance of the IGC Conclave in Naples this weekend.

"The proposal are measured and progressive and certainly form the basis for a good compromise in Naples. I especially welcome the re-introduction of QMV in foreign affairs if the initiative comes from the Foreign Minister. Also noteworthy is the revision clause for Part III, which I strongly welcome.

"I strongly urge the IGC to adopt these proposals in order to prepare the final settlement during the European Council in December."
